Up-and-coming UCSF and Stanford University researchers landed a total of $17.8 million in grants from California's stem cell research funding agency Wednesday for research ranging from ear hair cells that may reverse hearing loss to cells aimed at correcting sickle cell disease and other blood disorders before a baby is born.
