Stem cells used to grow hair; hormone inhibitor reduces sex drive

Researchers at Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute in California have used human pluripotent stem cells to generate new hair. "Our stem cell method provides an unlimited source of cells from the patient for transplantation, and isn't limited by the availability of existing hair follicles," says Alexey Terskikh, associate professor in the development, ageing and regeneration programme.

Spanish hospital uses stem cells to fix heart attack damage

For the first time in medical history, a hospital in Madrid has successfully treated seven patients who recently suffered heart attacks by using stem cells from donors, according to the hospital's statement. "Seven patients have already been operated on and they have progressed very well despite having suffered serious damage to their heart tissue," the statement , published by Madrid's Gregorio Maranon Hospital, said.
