HIV, spinal cord treatments win $20 million in stem cell agency awards

Tom Okarma, Geron's former CEO, is on the board of Asterias Biotherapeutics, which won $14 million in funding from California's stem cell research funding agency for an experimental spinal cord injury treatment.
