Animal pharm A 24 July ruling by the Second US Circuit Court of Appeals exempts the US Food and Drug Administration from having to ban nontherapeutic antibiotic use in livestock. The ruling is a reversal of a 2012 decision in favor of several consumer and health advocacy organizations that had sued the FDA for refusing to hold public hearings to discuss whether the widespread use of antibiotics for livestock should be prohibited as it may contribute to antibiotic resistance in humans.
