Diabetes cure in sight

Oct. 10: Hopes of a cure for insulin-dependent diabetes have risen, with a possible new strategy involving a transplant of laboratory-grown pancreatic cells. Scientists at Harvard University announced yesterday that they had coaxed human embryonic stem cells to transform into insulin-secreting pancreatic beta cells in quantities large enough for transplantation.
