Study claims loss of sense of smell doubles probability of death

Progressive loss of a person's sense of smell is a more accurate indicator of that person dying within five years of the loss of the sense of smell than any other physical indicator. This is the conclusion of a six-year study of smell loss in older adults conducted by Dr. Jayant M. Pinto, an associate professor of surgery at the University of Chicago, and a multidisciplinary team of scientists.
