Alabama physicians could refuse to perform abortions, sterilization under bill

The Health Care Rights of Conscience Act , sponsored by Rep. Arnold Mooney, a Republican, allows health care professional to refuse to perform abortions, sterilization, human cloning and human embryonic stem cell research that violate their conscience on religious or ethical grounds. Alabama has some of the toughest restrictions on abortion in the country, but it's doesn't have a conscience clause currently on the books.
