A small Ashland company that specializes in medical devices that use a fibrous material that can be infused with stem cells has spun out a separate firm called NuVascular Technologies to commericiaze its first two products. NuVascular, which works out of the same headquarters and has the same four core employees as Biosurfaces, hold the exclusive license to develop and sell a minimally-invasive treatment for heart disease developed by Biosurfaces and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
