Stanford medical researchers have devised a new procedure that can efficiently increase the length of protective caps on the ends of chromosomes that are linked to aging and disease. The treated caps - called telomeres - behave as if they are much younger than untreated cells, multiplying with abandon in the laboratory dish rather than stagnating or dying, according to scientists at the Stanford University School of Medicine.
