While Pope Francis recently took a rather liberal stance in proclaiming that evolution and the "Big Bang" to be evidence of the existence of God in direct contradiction to previous "creationist" teaching by the church, he has maintained more conservative views when it comes to euthanasia and in-vitro fertilization and abortion by denouncing them as "sins against God." He also spoke out against embryonic stem cell research "using human beings as laboratory experiments to presumably save the life of others," while addressing the Association of Italian Doctors recently.
